Nine Crypto Firms Form Quantum Alliance, Stating 30.2% of Bitcoin's Total Supply Has Exposed Public Keys

Nine crypto companies have announced the formation of the Quantum Alliance, which will develop universal post-quantum security standards for blockchain networks including Bitcoin and Ethereum, and release security testing and migration guidelines. Members include Hacken, Midnight Foundation, Quantus, and Postquant Labs. The alliance estimates that public keys for approximately 6.4 million BTC (30.2% of total circulating supply) have been exposed, including roughly 1.1 million BTC held by Satoshi Nakamoto, though current quantum computers are not yet capable of cracking these keys. Richard Carback, CTO of Postquant Labs, argues that this threat may materialize as early as 2028, and advocates for transferring at-risk BTC rather than freezing them.
