DeepSeek to impose charges for Search and Fetch calls within select programming tools starting November 1

Per DeepSeek's official API documentation, starting at 00:00 Beijing Time on November 1, 2026, requests accessing the Search and Fetch interfaces via server-side tool calls when users utilize the DeepSeek API in DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, and Codex will be charged on a per-request basis. This category of calls was previously provided free of charge. Both Search and Fetch are priced at 5 RMB per 1000 successful requests, with no billing based on token count or number of returned results. Failed requests, searches returning no results, and timed-out requests will not incur charges. Search is powered by DeepSeek's in-house developed search engine and returns structured web page results; Fetch retrieves a single web page and returns its main content in Markdown format.
