Chinese National Suspected of Transnational 500 Million Yuan Money Laundering Arrested in Bangkok
Thai immigration police have arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national who was wanted by Chinese authorities on suspicion of involvement in a transnational criminal network and money laundering. Investigators stated that the network processed transactions exceeding 500 million RMB (approximately 2.485 billion Thai Baht). The suspect handled cryptocurrency and foreign currency exchanges for the criminal syndicate through over 133 accounts, and is also suspected of arranging visas for members of the affiliated network. To evade arrest, he used forged documents to register his residence, swapped license plates, and repainted his vehicle, before being apprehended in a luxury property in the Saphan Sung district of Bangkok. His residence permit had been expired for approximately three years and eight months. He is charged with overstaying in violation of Section 81 of the Immigration Act, and will be deported back to China after completing legal proceedings in Thailand.
