New Uncertainties Emerge in Nscale's IPO Plan: Microsoft Withdraws from Data Center Project

Microsoft (MSFT.O) has withdrawn from the joint data center project with UK emerging cloud service provider Nscale located in Loughton, Essex, UK. This move comes at a critical juncture as Nscale prepares for its IPO, introducing new uncertainties to the startup's listing plans. Microsoft has not specified the exact reasons for terminating the partnership, though the project has faced a series of delays. Local authorities have informed Nscale that grid power supply to the facility is not expected to be available until the 2030s. Additionally, Nscale's flagship project in Norway is approximately six months behind its original schedule, with only 6.4 MW of the planned 30 MW data center capacity currently operational. According to Nscale's IPO filing, roughly 85% of the company's contracts are dependent on Microsoft and Anthropic.
