ImportantQ3 Crypto Security Incident Losses Rise 55% Quarter-over-Quarter, Hacken Warns Audits Cannot Cover All Risks
Blockchain security firm Hacken's report shows that in the third quarter of 2026, a total of 107 security incidents occurred in the crypto industry, with total losses reaching $1.18 billion, representing a 55% quarter-over-quarter increase. Approximately $906.8 million of these losses stemmed from compromises of vendors or development tools, failure to remediate known vulnerabilities in a timely manner, and related components not being included in the latest audit scope. Additionally, some derivatives trading platforms and prediction markets have insufficient key management arrangements that underpin their asset security, though no actively exploited vulnerabilities have been identified on these platforms. Analysis indicates that security audits cannot replace continuous vulnerability management; project teams must still promptly patch known vulnerabilities and ensure audits cover all system components that materially impact fund security.
