Microsoft: North Korean Hacker Groups Have Embedded AI Into Entire Attack Workflows, Typically Targeting Cryptocurrencies and Other Assets
Microsoft's threat intelligence team reveals that North Korean hacker groups have a "high" overall AI adoption rate, with subgroups Jade Sleet, Coral Sleet, and Jasper Sleet having integrated AI into their full operational attack pipelines. Specifically, Jade Sleet launched recruitment-themed attacks via three front companies within a single week; Onyx Sleet produced over 100 custom PDF decoy documents between August and September; Coral Sleet is suspected of using AI development platforms to implant trojans into private GitHub code repositories. Since late October, Onyx Sleet and Pearl Sleet have begun utilizing ARTEX, the open-source agentic AI penetration testing framework. Microsoft assesses that these operations remain human-led and have not achieved full autonomy to date.
